The Miracle Worker: Jesus Raises a Girl from the Dead

Archbishop Amin Gill of Jehovah Saints Church in Pakistan shared a powerful message about the miracles of Jesus Christ. During a Sunday service in Chak No. 198 JB Gojra, he recited and reflected on a remarkable passage from the Gospel of Luke, chapter 8, verses 40-49. This passage recounts one of Jesus’ most awe-inspiring miracles—raising a young girl from the dead. This story is a profound reminder of Jesus’ divine power, compassion, and ability to bring hope even in the most hopeless situations.

The Setting: A Desperate Father’s Plea

The story begins with Jesus returning to a crowd of people who were eagerly waiting for Him. Among the crowd was a man named Jairus, a synagogue leader, who approached Jesus with desperation and faith. Jairus fell at Jesus’ feet, pleading for Him to come and heal his dying twelve-year-old daughter.

Luke 8:41-42 says:"And, behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus' feet, and besought him that he would come into his house: For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying."

Jairus’ actions demonstrate the kind of faith we are called to have. Despite his position as a respected synagogue leader, he humbled himself before Jesus, believing that only Jesus could save his daughter.

A Divine Interruption

As Jesus went with Jairus, the crowd followed closely, pressing against Him. On the way, another miracle occurred—a woman with a bleeding condition for twelve years touched the hem of Jesus’ garment and was instantly healed. Jesus stopped to address her, saying, “Daughter, your faith has made you whole; go in peace” (Luke 8:48).

This moment highlights an important truth: Jesus is never too busy to respond to faith. Whether it’s Jairus pleading for his daughter or the woman seeking healing, Jesus meets us where we are and responds to our faith.

The Tragic News

While Jesus was still speaking to the woman, someone from Jairus’ house arrived with devastating news: “Your daughter is dead; trouble not the Master” (Luke 8:49). Imagine the heartbreak Jairus must have felt in that moment. His worst fear had come true, and it seemed as though all hope was lost.

But Jesus, full of compassion and power, immediately reassured Jairus. He said, “Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole” (Luke 8:50). These words remind us that even in the face of death, Jesus calls us to trust Him completely.

The Miracle: Jesus Raises the Girl

When Jesus arrived at Jairus’ house, He found people mourning the girl’s death. He told them, “Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth” (Luke 8:52). The mourners laughed at Him, knowing she was dead. But Jesus, unfazed by their disbelief, entered the house with only the girl’s parents and three of His disciples—Peter, James, and John.

Jesus took the girl by the hand and said, “Maid, arise” (Luke 8:54). Immediately, her spirit returned, and she got up. Jesus then instructed her parents to give her something to eat, a practical act that further confirmed her complete restoration.

This miracle demonstrates Jesus’ authority over life and death. As John 11:25 declares, Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.”

Lessons from the Miracle

This story is more than just a miraculous event; it is a message of hope, faith, and the power of Jesus Christ. Here are some key lessons we can take away:

  1. Faith in Jesus Brings HopeJairus’ faith led him to seek Jesus, even in a moment of despair. His example reminds us to turn to Jesus with faith, no matter how dire our circumstances may seem.

  2. Jesus Responds to FaithBoth Jairus and the woman with the issue of blood demonstrated faith, and Jesus responded to both. Faith is the key that unlocks the power of God in our lives.

  3. Jesus Has Power Over DeathBy raising Jairus’ daughter, Jesus showed that He has authority even over death. This miracle foreshadows His ultimate victory over death through His resurrection.

  4. God’s Timing is PerfectThough it seemed like Jesus was delayed by healing the woman, His timing was perfect. God is never late, and His plans for us are always good.

A Message of Hope for Today

Just as Jesus brought hope and life to Jairus’ family, He offers the same to us today. Whatever challenges or sorrows we may face, we can trust in His power to bring healing, restoration, and even life where there is death.

As Psalm 30:5 says, “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” Jesus is the source of that joy, and His miracles remind us that nothing is impossible for Him.

Archbishop Amin Gill’s message from Luke 8:40-49 is a powerful reminder of Jesus’ miraculous power and unchanging love. Whether we are seeking healing, restoration, or hope, Jesus is always ready to meet us with compassion and power.

Just as He raised Jairus’ daughter from the dead, He can breathe new life into any situation we face. Let us place our faith in Him, trusting that He is the resurrection and the life. In His name, we can find hope, healing, and everlasting joy.
